What are First Bites?

Welcome to First Bites–posts of my first impressions based on first episodes of dramas. I’ll start off with a little bit of an introduction of the drama, then sprinkle in some commentary and thoughts, then end it with a final thought. I’ll keep these previews short and sweet. So many dramas, so little time… right?!

Note: May contain spoilers!

Lucky Seven staring Matsumoto Jun, Eita, Matsushima Nanako, Oizumi Yo and Naka Riisa.

First off is Lucky Seven, starring Matsumoto Jun, Eita, and Matsushima Nanako to name a few. The first episode starts off with unemployed Tokita Shuntaro (Matsumoto Jun) shirtless in bed with a woman in a hotel room. Unfortunately, the woman in this case is married and they’re only using each other for sex. The cheating wife’s husband is suspicious and hires a detective agency to tail the wife. Shuntaro comes into contact with one of the detectives and thinks nothing of it until he’s dumped by the woman. By chance, he spots the detective at a watch store and furiously chases the detective down (portrayed by Eita).

Shirtless Matsumoto Jun!

Matsushima Nanako

Sounds exciting, right? What happens after this is strange. Shuntaro somehow finds the detective agency and the company president, Touko (Matsushima Nanako), is impressed by him and gives him a job on the spot. In my opinion, everything goes downhill from that point because the storyline makes no sense to me. The team of 7 detectives including Shuntaro have no chemistry and team dynamics based on the first episode. The only interesting character so far is Teru who gets to show off his martial arts in this episode. There were some comedic scenes that involve Teru and Shuntaro (ie. The Fight Club scene) which made the first episode bearable, but other than that the characters didn’t connect with me.

Eita getting his leg bit by Matsumoto Jun. LOL!

Matsumoto Jun showing off his fighting skills.

First Bite of Lucky Seven

A little bland with few surprises. I’ll go back for a second bite if I have time, but I’m expecting the same ole same ole.

Is it a keeper?
For an Arashi and Johnny’s fangirl–Definitely! Arashi member, Matsumoto Jun is shirtless a couple times!
For me: Maybe…I’ll have to see.

I love japanese detective/police dramas, so I’ll definitely watch this! I love MatsuJun (who doesn’t?) and Eita as well=)

I definitely love detective dramas too! I’ll have to watch the 2nd episode to feel how the storyline goes.
