Glad to hear that you got something valuable from this post. :) YFU is a great program and without it, Japanese wouldn't have been as enjoyable for me. Before going to Japan, I was in Japanese 1. After the summer in Japan, I came back to Japanese 2 class, but I was bored! With my teacher's approval, she allowed me to skip to the advanced class of Japanese 3-4 students, but I remained in Japanese 2 as a tutor too. I had to work extra hard to get the Japanese 3-4 students' respect and I think I achieved it in the end.

Your daughter seems to be doing well. Knowing Chinese definitely helps and it's great to hear that she's taking great strides in her learning. I wish her all the best and hopefully she can win a scholarship through YFU when the time comes! :)

Thanks for reading and I'll definitely be updating this blog with my progress.

Hi! Thanks for this post & i found out abt YFU. I googled it & glad that we have it here in the Phils. You know, my daughter took a japanese class last summer break (Apr-May here in the PH). And she's planning to take another level this yr. Her sensei told her she's now ready to take the JLPT N5 test coz she learns fast. She alrdy knows how to read and write katakana & hiragana, and some kanji even before she started the japanese class. Her sensei was surprised how easy it was for her to write the characters. Guess it's the advantage of going to a chinese school. She plans to study in japan when she gets to college. And thanks to you for telling us abt YFU. Now i know where to go when she's ready to apply as exchange student. Btw, she's only 13 going 14, & according to the website, ages 15-19 are the age requirement for YFU exchange student. So, she has lots of time to prepare. Thanks again and keep us updated to your journey to JLPT. God bless and more power! ^_^

Juri Ueno is a fabulous actress. With every mood there is to this drama, her actions are quick at unbelievable rates. From a gentle smile, to shock ... To happiness. She plays a fantastic survivor.
